Strengthen your teeth!
What is Fluoride?
Fluoride is a mineral that helps protect teeth from developing cavities (tooth decay). Using fluoride is considered important for having healthy and strong teeth. You can find it in toothpaste, certain mouth rinses, water, food, rocks, air, soil and plants.
Fluoride helps prevent cavities in two different ways:
- Concentrates in the growing bones and developing teeth, helping to harden the enamel on baby and adult teeth before they emerge.
- Helps to harden the enamel on teeth that have already emerged
Pasadena dentists recommend the used of fluoride because it hardens the enamel of teeth, making them stronger and more resistant to the acid in the mouth produced from sugars and plaque bacteria, preventing tooth decay. By hardening the tooth surface, fluoride also helps reduce tooth sensitivity produced from cold, hot, acidic, or sweet foods. At Prestige Dental, Dr. Bouzoghlanian will perform an evaluation of your risk for developing cavities and tooth sensitivity, and recommend an appropriate product containing fluoride. He may also apply fluoride to your teeth in a higher strength compared to the ones found in commercial products such as mouth rinse or toothpaste.
