Teeth Whitening Treatment
What to expect before, during & after
Before Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening is a fairly simple procedure that is non-invasive and straightforward. However, there are some things to keep in mind about teeth whitening before visiting our Pasadena dentist at Prestige Dental for treatment. We recommend the following:
- Eat: Sounds simple enough, right? Be sure to eat a snack or meal if possible before coming in for teeth whitening treatment so there is no need to interrupt the procedure. Also, the teeth may be sensitive to cold or hot for a brief period after the procedure, so it’s a good idea to have your meal prior to your appointment.
- Brush your teeth: You probably do this out of habit every time you visit a dentist. However, since we’re suggesting to eat prior to your appointment, it’s relevant to tell you to brush your teeth as well. This will help remove food and other substances so that your teeth will be completely clean prior to the teeth whitening treatment.
- Floss: All food particles need to be removed. Just brushing your teeth won’t do the job. Greater results are attained with teeth whitening when the teeth are fully clean.
- Time: Set aside enough time for your teeth whitening appointment. We understand that you have a busy schedule, but enough time should be allotted so that your whitening treatment is not cut short. Treatment can usually be completed in about 30 minutes. We recommend setting aside an hour so that you are not rushed and have plenty of time.
During Teeth Whitening
During your teeth whitening treatment at our Pasadena dental office (Prestige Dental), our dentist and staff will be at your side while completing the whitening procedure and to answer any questions you may have. Depending on the type of teeth whitening treatment you are getting, our dentist will guide you through every phase. All you need to do is sit back and relax!
After Teeth Whitening
With professional teeth whitening at our Prestige Dental Pasadena office, you’ll be able to get right back into your daily routine. Our dentist does recommend that you avoid food and beverages that stain teeth for at least 36-48 hours after completing the whitening treatment. The recommendation is due to the fact that pores or dentinal tubules are open and most susceptible to new stains during this time frame. Other than this, feel free to go about your day as usual.
Foods to avoid: Dark teas, coffee, dark wines, dark sodas, curry, berries, sports drinks, sauces (ketchup, soy sauce, etc) and hard candies.
Foods to eat: Apples, pears, cauliflower, cheese, salmon, onions, mushrooms, pineapple, green veggies and carrots.
Don’t forget to call our Pasadena dental office (Prestige Dental) to speak to our dentist about teeth whitening or other procedures. Our patients are our first priority!
