Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening Pasadena

The Problem:

Dull colored or stained teeth

The Solution:

A great smile is one of the first things people notice about you. However, if you have ever worried about having dull, gray or yellowed teeth, you’re not alone. Many everyday things like coffee, tea and wine can significantly discolor teeth. Some foods, such as berries and chocolate, can stain teeth. And the dulling effects of both aging and smoking are easy to see.

Fortunately, teeth whitening enables us to significantly brighten your smile, often times in just one visit. The advantages are excellent.

  • Long lasting
  • Low sensitivity
  • Proven safe
  • Significant whitening results in just one visit

  • What are the advantages of teeth whitening?

Modern teeth whitening systems are highly effective and have dramatic results. Many celebrities consistently whiten their teeth to improve their appearance.

  • What are the disadvantages of teeth whitening?

Occasionally, patients may experience some gum or teeth sensitivity when using their trays. These symptoms subside when whitening is discontinued for several days.

  • What are the alternatives to teeth whitening?

Plastic whitening trays will be made from models of your teeth. You will then place a special whitening gel in each tray and wear the trays in your mouth for several hours per day. (Many patients wear their trays after dinner and before bed, or at bedtime). A significant change in teeth color is usually seen in just a few weeks.

Accelerated whitening is another option for some patients. This process can result in whiter, brighter teeth in just one office visit. Please consult with the doctor to see if this procedure may work for you.

Occasionally, teeth may be stained in a way that limits the effectiveness of teeth whitening. In those instances, porcelain veneers or crowns are an excellent alternative.

Choose the right teeth whitening for you

Teeth whitening is available for new and existing patients in our practice. We offer two types, including our in-office power bleaching and our take-home whitening trays. Both are effective in achieving desirable results that far exceed patient expectations.

power bleaching

In-office power bleaching

In-office power bleaching is the fastest, most effective way to achieve a whiter smile. This treatment is done in our office with the assistance of our professional dental staff. The procedure is performed quickly, with patients spending less than two hours total in our practice. The teeth are bleached and patients will see results up to eight shades brighter. The procedure starts with cleaning and then the bleaching process begins while patients relax in the dental chair. When completed, another cleaning is performed and patients are sent on their way with their rejuvenated smile!

whitening trays

Take-home whitening trays

The other option at our practice is our take-home whitening trays. These are custom-made for patients to use in the privacy of their own homes. The trays are fabricated using impressions of the natural smile and are used along with highly concentrated gels. Patients place the gel into the trays and wear the trays for a specific period of time each day to gradually brighten their smile.

Can I Have Teeth Whitening If I Have Dental Restorations?

When implants and crowns are placed, they are often used for replacing missing teeth. When teeth whitening is performed, it will whiten the natural teeth but will not affect the restorations in the same way. Fillings, crowns, veneers, implants, or other restorations will typically not change color. This is because the porcelain materials used in the restorations are not porous and not affected in the same manner.

What if I want to whiten my teeth but have restorations in place?

The first step is to consult with our dentist to discuss the options available to you. Many patients will consider having whitening performed and then replace the visible restorations that are darker or yellower in color. Restorations that are on the back teeth (molars) or that are not visible may not require replacement after whitening. For restorations on the front teeth, the new restorations are made to match the new color of the natural teeth. For the whitening to produce the best results long term, patients must continue to periodically whiten their smile to maintain the results, or the new restorations may be whiter than the existing teeth.
